The second episode of Tomorrow Waits For No One, a locally-produced web series, is in preproduction and will begin filming this spring. The first episode, Who Am I?, premiered last November on local public access station URTV, cable channel 20. Episode 2, Beware the Stranger, will begin shooting in April and is expected to debut this summer.
Tomorrow Waits For No One is the gripping tale of Marcus Lazano. Chased by two thugs, he is run over by Frank Cain's car and awakens in the hospital with amnesia. Romantic sparks fly between Det. Cole Washington and Marcus as the detective investigates the ‘missing persons in reverse’ case. Frank is the only one who knows Marcus's identity (or is he?) but keeps mum as a fortune may be up for the taking.
Starring Alexei Wood and featuring Nick Iway, Matt Stivers, Beth Sweet, Patrick Greene, and Monty McIntire, the first episode was produced and directed by Nick Iway, co-directed by Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival winner Aaron Putnam, and written by Marcello Lanfranchi.
Joseph Barcia has been tapped to play lead Marcus Lazano. “The mystery of Marcus’s past and the romantic possibilities for him and Detective Washington are what drew me to the role,” he said. “I see great potential for developing a riveting storyline for two strong gay characters.”
The series is produced by Santa Lorena Productions, an Asheville-based nonprofit film production group. The pilot episode afforded nearly 40 Asheville area residents first-hand experience in filmmaking and video production.
“We’re gearing up to shoot the second episode and are looking for some key crew members,” reported Tomorrow Waits For No One creator Marcello Lanfranchi. “Specifically, we’re looking for a production manager or assistant director, someone who can organize the logistics of a film production.” He also stated that they seek someone interested in set decorating and costuming.
Alexei Wood, who plays bad boy Frank Cain, explained that everything is moving forward smoothly. “Just about everyone involved in the first episode is back for this one,” he said. “We have to recast two roles and we need a couple of key crew members but otherwise, we’re on!”
“This series cannot proceed without you!” added Hara Kahn, who plays Dr. Margaret Park. “You don’t need to have filmmaking experience, just a desire to learn the craft.”
One role still up for grabs is that of Det. Cole Washington, a 30-something African-American cop. “We’re looking for someone willing to play a gay character,” asserts Lanfranchi. “Future episodes will include kissing scenes between him and another male actor.” When asked if they’ve had trouble casting the role, he replied, “you’d be surprised at how many actors still have a problem with that.”
“This is an unpaid position,” stated Wood. “But you'll be able to add to your resume and you'll get to work with some great people while having a lot of fun.” The producers assure that food will be provided at all shoots.
