It's been less than a month since the LGBTQ community of the Spartanburg area experienced it's first Pride march and Upstate Pride is already looking forward to and working toward its second annual LGBTQ Pride march in 2020.

Upstate Pride's planning committee has taken a couple of weeks off after a very successful inaugural Pride march and festival, which were held on June 20, and is now back to work planning Upstate Pride events for 2010. In order to ensure that next year's event is even better than this year's, Upstate Pride is in need of some volunteers who are willing to commit their time, energy and ideas to the planning process.

In a recent call for new members on the board of directors, P.K. Weiss of Upstate Pride said, "We are looking for people to fill the following positions... President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer as well as at least two at-large directors. We are also seeking people to chair committees..." In addition to the other officers and members, committee chairs also serve on the board.

As they search for people to fill these positions, Weiss says they are looking for people who are "partners, listeners, consensus builders, ethical watchdogs, discreet ambassadors, energetically and enthusiastically engaged."

In the near future, Upstate Pride will be offering other opportunities for folks to get involved as they will be searching for individuals to serve on a variety of committees engaged in planning next year's event.

Weiss also points out, "In addition, we'll be offering voting memberships to people who want their voices heard but don't necessarily have the time to commit..."

If you are interested in submitting your name for consideration as a member of the board of directors of Upstate Pride, please email P.K. Weiss at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it no later than August 11, 2009. If you go to Pride Charlotte this Saturday, July 25, at Gateway Village in Uptown Charlotte, stop by Upstate Pride's booth to meet some of the dedicated people who brought you Upstate South Carolina's first Pride march and festival.

Daniel RadcHarry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe would donn a dress and heels for the right script.liffe, the 19 year-old star of the Harry Potter films, has expressed an interest in portraying a transvestite.

Radcliffe recently told The Guardian that cross-dressing on screen is an idea that intrigues him.

He said, "I'd love to play a drag queen or transvestite, but not just because of the costumes. Wait, what am I saying? Yes, because of the costumes! If the script was good... I wouldn't just do it because I got to dress up.

Radcliffe added, "I maintain that I look good with eye make-up. And I'm not going to be an emo kid, so the only other option is drag queen."

Radcliffe has also been reported to be pal-ing around with a drag queen, Our Lady J, in New York.  If that's the case, then he is probably learning a lot about drag culture which will be good backrgound research for a future transvestite role.
